Directions:
 Focus on one of the stories: “A Pair of Silk Stockings” or
“Desiree’s Baby”. Write from the point of view of the lead
female character (Mrs. Sommers or Desiree).
 Choose one of the following styles and write an explanation of
what you, the character, did. Give your reasons, use quotations
and details from the story and other articles and stories, etc.
Use detail to show your understanding of the story, the time,
and the character.

Diary
Letter to mother (give name or Mme Valmonde)
Letter to husband (Mr. Sommers or Armand)
Letter to child (give name or not for “Desiree’s Baby”)
Letter to friend (choose female or male and give name)
Each style lends a freedom and an inhibitor to the writer. Remember
how you may want to couch things when writing to a loved one
(mother or husband), a sympathetic friend, a child, or in a book no
one else is to read (and no one else will respond to). You may want a
mode where someone will respond, rather than the diary.
