Summer Assignment for AP Biology Springbrook High School Dr. Virginia Folsom School Office: (301) 989-5700 G105 Virginia_J_Folsom@mcpsmd.org Attached you will find 2 photocopied packets. One packet is a copy of Chapter 2 of our textbook, Biology in Focus. The other packet contains questions for you to answer as you read the chapter. There are two parts to the summer assignment: 1. Read, highlight and annotate Chapter 2 of the textbook. 2. Answer questions related to the reading. 1. Read, highlight and annotate I expect that you will find a number of connections to prior learning within the chapter. As you read, I would like you to highlight and write code letters in the margin to indicate connections to other science subjects you have studied. You might even use more than one letter for each item you highlight. For example, information about the structure of water molecules could relate to both biology and chemistry, so you could write B and C in the margin next to the highlighted section. Code letters to indicate why you are highlighting: B = something you learned in your first year biology class C = a connection to content you learned in chemistry class P = a connection to content you learned in physics class H = it’s hazy, but it’s coming back to me 2. Reading questions As you read the chapter, complete the AP Biology Summer Assignment, 2015. Please answer in complete sentences in the space provided. The due date and deadline for summer work will be Wednesday, September 2. This is a mandatory formative assessment. Note: If I miss you before the end of school, or if you lose your copy of the textbook chapter, you can email me with your mailing address and I will arrange for a copy to be sent to you by USPS mail.
