Rec Extra – The Middle School After School Program
Rec Extra is a cooperative program with the Middle School that is designed to
supplement and enhance the school based after-school activities offerings. The
program provides the ability of being site specific and thus better meeting the needs
of the Schools administration and the Student Body. It’s goal is to not only keep the
participants constructively occupied during the “Teen High Crime Time” but more
importantly to provide the students opportunities to gain new experiences that they
may not normally have at their school or in their community, interact with fellow
students whom they normally do not interact with, get to know their teachers
outside of just an academic setting, have opportunities to learn new skills and to be
involved in a positive environment that can provide them with the tools for Positive
Youth Development. A lot of what we do gives our students greater general
experience, positive self-esteem and greater choices in what they can do. These
things hopefully can help them in being able to make better choices through the
greater experiences that they have gained. The Rec Extra programs that are offered
are Free to the registered participants.
