Instructions for Creating a New Project Applies to: All Fast Track, Low, Medium and High Complexity Projects The Project Management Information and Tracking (PMIT) system is designed to allow Project Managers (PMs) the ability to store and update their project information in a relational database for later updates, analyses and reports. PMIT is NOT a project planning and scheduling system. Before using PMIT, PMs use the tools of their choice in working with their project team and sponsor to develop the required plans based on their project’s complexity. 1. PMs are expected to have worked with the Project Management Office (PMO) to perform a detailed requirements analysis to determine their projects: Total Cost Time to Complete Required Resources Risk Analysis 2. Use the above information to complete the Project Classification Worksheet (located on the PMO Web site) to determine if your project is Fast Track, Low, Medium or High Complexity. 3. Use the Project Plan Templates on the PMO Web site that are required for your project’s complexity level (FT, LC, MC, HC) to guide your project planning and scheduling efforts. 4. When you are ready to enter plan information, access the PMIT system via the link on the PMO Web site or directly by going to this URL: http//www.pubapps.vcu.edu/pmit 5. Login to the PMIT system using your eID and password. 6. In the Project Data Management section of the PMIT home page, use the drop down arrow in the Create New Project section to select your project’s classification level. 7. Each project classification has a workflow that will take you through all required project plans in order through completion. 8. Refer to the Instructions for individual plans located on the PMO Web site for help with completing all required plans and any optional plans of your choice. 9. At any point that you quit before completing the data entry workflow, the system will track which required plans you have completed and which were skipped. When you login again to resume data entry you will need to complete each of the skipped plans individually. See the Instructions for Editing Projects located on the PMO Web site for help. 10.Once you complete all required plans for your project’s complexity level, the system will display a success notice. At that point, you may use the Project Information Edits to verify your data entry. Refer to Instructions for Project Information Edits located on the PMO Web site for help. 11.Should you decide to use any additional project plan components not required by your project’s complexity level, simply select the plan from the list on the left side and follow the instructions for completion located on the PMO Web site. 12.Logout of the system and close your browser session at completion.
