Repetition- When an author repeats the
same word or phrase over and over to
enhance the meaning
 Anaphora- When an author repeats a
phrase or word at the beginning of
multiple lines in a poem.

Assonance- Repetition of a vowel sound
 Consonance- Repetition of a consonant
sound
 Alliteration- Repetition of the sound at
the beginning of words


Imagery- When the writer uses
descriptive details to paint a picture in
the head of the reader. (Specifically
relating to the 5 senses)
Rhyme- Repetition of similar sounds in
two or more words
 Meter- Basic rhythmic structure in lines of
a poem


Stanza- A group of lines in a poem
