Students will make drawings using black and white, monochromatic, complimentary, and primary color palettes. This is a preliminary step to students learning about and developing a successful personal color palette. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Make a color wheel and demonstrate its use Make pastel drawings using the following color schemes: black and white, monochromatic, complimentary, primary triad, and analogous. Analyze and compare the and strengths of each color scheme studied. Demonstrate safe studio practices. Research and identify color palettes of other artists. At an introductory level assemble and present a personal portfolio of pastel drawings. Critique other artists work at an introductory level. COURSE CONTENT: (In detail; attach additional information as needed and include percentage breakdown) 40 % Color theory and its application 40 % Use of the pastel medium 10 % Introductory techniques for the presentation of pastels on paper 5 % Safe studio practices concerning pastel medium. 5 % Introductory techniques archival storage, matting and framing of pastels.
