Students will learn how to mix materials that can be used to enhance the surface of a ceramic object. They will critically assess their own work and that of their classmates. COURSE OBJECTIVE At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Demonstrate a working knowledge of decorative techniques, including some executed on the potter's wheel. Demonstrate knowledge of basic formulation and mixing of colored clay, slips, stains and oxides, and glazes. Demonstrate a broader ability to critically analyze and assess his/her own and peers' work. Demonstrate safe use of materials, studio and tools. COURSE CONTENT: Introducing texturing methods on the potter's wheel; formulation and mixing of colored clays, slips, underglazes, stains, oxides and glazes; new uses of same materials; design considerations.
