ACTIVITIES: (Please provide a list of the activities students will perform in order to satisfy the HBA requirement): COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION This course is for students who have some knowledge of basic ceramics forming techniques and who want to focus on surface decorating. Students will learn about many materials and techniques that can be used to enhance the surface of a ceramic object, and will begin to critically assess their own work. Not repeatable. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of texturing techniques, colored clay, slips, stains, oxides, and glazes. 2. Identify and broaden his/her personal aesthetic. 3. Critically analyze and assess his/her own and peers' work. 4. Demonstrate safe use of materials, studio, and tools. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will create a plate incorporating texture and slips. Students will create, glaze and fire a vessel using colored clay. COURSE CONTENT: Texturing methods, colored clays; slips, stains, oxides, and glazes and their application; and basic design techniques. Criticism of student work.
