Generally, no more than 9 absences per course to receive credit. STEM Academy Extracurricular Activities Each student is to participate in at least one extra-curricular activity. There are many options: • Band, Choir, Orchestra • Academic UIL • Science Fair • World Quest • Mu Alpha Theta • CyberPatriots • Athletics • Robotics • Theater • Art • Dance/Cheer • Clubs STEM Academy Community Service Requirements STEM students are to complete annual community service hours, as follows: 9th grade – 15 hours 10th grade – 15 hours 11th grade – 25 hours 12th grade – 25 hours Faculty will organize a few service opportunities during the year for students to participate in collectively, while representing STEM Academy. Service Opportunities! Summer of Service (SOS) • Outside organization (Not NEISD Sponsored) • Community-Based (Local teachers, parents, business owners, non-profits) • Community Service Opportunities are year-long • Trips/service abroad opportunities in the Summer Contact Amir Samandi or Melendy Jacobie www.sossanantonio.org STEM Academy How you can help… • STEM Advisory Board – need one business representative for each category: science, technology, engineering and mathematics • Participate in STEM Parent Meetings, generally two a semester • Identify corporate/business sponsors and mentors to enrich our program • Engineering Festival & Field Day • Active membership in Lee/ISA/STEM/NESA PTSA • Volunteer – field trip chaperone Transition Time!
