Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Specialist, Web Communications, is responsible for assisting the Business Services Group (BSG) and the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC) with researching and developing design solutions for all web-based graphic and marketing communication. The individual builds, manages and maintains the program web sites and portal, teaches and counsels clients on internet and print marketing, and trains student interns on use of various social media. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 60% - Website Development and Maintenance Assist the BSG and NSBDC with all web graphic and marketing needs;build and manage the BSG web portal Manage and maintain the program websites of the BSG and make changes/updates as necessary Provide quality control of web postings for the BSG and NSBDC web sites Seek and utilize approved designs, style sheets and other formatting recommendations Provide marketing and information technology communications expertise to the BSG entities Assist with establishment of web-related policies and procedures 30% - Project Planning, Client Consulting and Training Participate in meetings with clients to assess web communications needs, discuss options and provide advice about possible solutions Consult with and counsel clients on both internet marketing and print marketing Assist and/or instruct clients on creating blogs and websites to assist clients in building or starting a business Teach workshops for clients regarding new technologies, i.e., blogging, SEO, social media 10% - Student Intern Training & Coordination Coordinate with supervisor to train and assist NSBDC student interns on learning various social media marketing, blogging, and BSG portal needs to enhance their experience working in a business environment 3. The position works under the supervision of the Business Services Group Program Manager. The position conducts activities in accordance with policies and procedures established by UNR and the NSBDC. The individual works closely with the BSG Program Manager and other managers with the BSG and NSBDC. Individual must be flexible and work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and recommendations. Inadequate performance would result in delays and inefficiency in the administration of the NSBDC and its projects as well as client dissatisfaction with BSG and NSBDC services. Revenue generation from BSG is an important aspect of this position and failure to promote the website would cause the program to lose credibility and funding from this source.
