ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY JOB DESCRIPTION APPROVED POSITION INFORMATION (to be completed by HR) Effective: 2/1/2015 Title Manager, Student Union Operations Essential Function: Light Work Range JCC PCN 2 77712 17455 Description: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling. 1. The Manager, Student Union Operations coordinates training and supervises approximately 100 student employees, volunteers, and graduate assistants in collaboration with the Student Union’s full time team. The 167,000 square foot JCSU building serves as the center for student life and co-curricular activities. The Manager is responsible for the security and emergency response of the building as well as the successful 24/7 operation of the JCSU during evenings and weekends. The incumbent oversees all activities during non-traditional hours within the student union facilities including, but not limited to, the Information Center, theatre, box office, programming spaces, and conference facilities. The Manager supervises student staff and coordinates facility maintenance and setups with the JCSU Scheduling Office and the swing and graveyard custodial crews; interprets and implements university and Student Union policies and procedures for facility usage and programming; and oversees student employees in coordination with the Associate Director, Joe Crowley Student Union Operations * Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division. 2. If line of progression, define for each range as above. 65% - Daily Operations Oversee the operation of the Student Union primarily during evening/weekend hours and additional hours as needed Administer the successful operation of the various services including, but not limited to, the Information Center, Box Office, theatre, programming spaces and conference facilities Ensure safety, security, and assess risk management of the student union building, programs and patrons Direct all building emergencies and evacuations Ensure cleanliness of interior and exterior of the JCSU facilities in coordination with the custodial crews 1 Manager, Student Union Operations Ensure preparation, set up and breakdown of all meeting and programming spaces before and after each use Ensure completion of employee duties and security of building at close of business each day Work with the University Facilities Services staff and police as needed to resolve urgent and/or dangerous situations such as leaks, temperature control, security, etc. Work with the various departments housed in the Joe Crowley Student Union including the Associated Students of the University of Nevada, the Graduate Student Association, the Center for Student Cultural Diversity, the Nevada Wolf Shop, the Wolf Card Office, Chartwells Catering, and 10 retail vendors to coordinate maintenance requests such as painting, repairs, cleaning, etc. Monitor and reconcile cash sales Monitor attendance and traffic within the JCSU facilities to guarantee the adherence to state and county regulations such as fire code, accessibility, etc. Maintain inventory of all keys, equipment, furnishings, etc. Coordinate with University Police Services ensuring the facility is locked and secure after operating hours. Solve problems in a positive manner for JCSU patrons Effectively communicate with student organizations and departments to assist with successful implementation of their programs and events 30% - Administration and Supervision Supervise night operations staff Create safety and security procedures to include evacuation and emergency responses Write nightly reports and other reports Attend staff meetings and student trainings Implement detailed tracking of budget, supplies, equipment, repairs, purchases, etc. Supervise, train, evaluate and schedule approximately 100 student employees Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Event Management, Coordinator, JCSU Building Services and Coordinator, Student Union Technology Services to effectively schedule and implement events, programs and services. Research and recommend improvements to JCSU facilities, policies and procedures Conduct annual inventory, provide budget, planning and capital improvement oversight for Operations Represent the Associate Director of Operations in his/her absence Responsible for all decisions concerning the student Union in the absence of the Director, Associate Director of Operations, Associate Director of Programming and the Assistant Director of Event Management 5% - Professional Development Represent the Joe Crowley Student Union, Student Life Services and/or the Division of Student Services in meetings, on committees and workgroups Create and present training and leadership development programs for JCSU student employees Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and/or training as determined in consultation with the Associate Director of Operations 2 Manager, Student Union Operations 3. The Manager, JCSU Operations, is the frontline person representing the Joe Crowley Student Union to the university and local communities on the evenings and weekends. The individual must ensure the success of high profile events such as those hosted by the University President, Board of Regents and the Alumni Association. The activities of the person maintains the excellence of service provided by the student union by providing on-site management during the extended, non-traditional evening and weekend business hours of the JCSU. Decisions made directly impact customers, student staff and JCSU professional staff as logistics and program failures will be visible and apparent. Negative impacts could include failure of high profile events to be implemented therefore resulting in embarrassment to event hosts and loss of support from influential patrons. Good judgment is necessary and the individual must determine when to contact JCSU professional staff and campus personnel in case of an emergency. The Operations Manager will represent the Associate Director of Operations in her/his absence. 4.
