Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

The Grant Writer ’s primary responsibilities consist of researching possible grant awards available to Nevada Advanced Autonomous Systems Innovation Center’s (NAASIC) officers and faculty, preparing the grant applications per the requirements listed, submitting grant applications, and following through on the grant application process for each grant application submitted. The Grant Writer will be responsible for the preparation of the sub-award agreements along with risk assessments, adherence to compliance, and monitoring of sub-recipients. The position will help assess risk of prospective sub-award recipients, prepare sub-award agreements with necessary flow-down terms and conditions from the prime award, and ensure the proper signing and processing of all sub-award documents. The position reports to the

NAASIC Business Development Director.

70% - Grant Research and Writing

 Research availability and opportunities for grant funding through NSF and other

 appropriate funding agencies

Assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and

 presentations

Provide writing support for major donor and individual contribution letters and acknowledgements

Verify accuracy of all grant applications per the individualized application instructions

 that are provided by grantor prior to submission of applications

Maintain calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, additional requested documents, and proposal deadlines

15% - Analysis and Reporting

 Maintain records of grant applications, grant awards, and denials

 Gather and consolidate outcome data for determining grant award successes

Supply percentages of success as well as project future success rates

Assemble reports for regulatory authorities, as well as NAASIC Directors, College of

Engineering, and UNR officials

15% - Preparation, Reporting, and Administration

 Provide accurate calculations as requested for completion of budget preparation

 Interact and work with NAASIC and College of Engineering staff to obtain data for budget preparation, compliance issues, audits, revisions and closeouts

 Collaborate with PIs in preparation and calculation of budgets for grant applications; both new and continuing funding

 Monitor protocols for budgets on each project and ensure compliance with funding requirements and assist with ensuring projects remain within budget

 Participate in project documentation collection and submission in the event of an audit

The position will negotiate terms and conditions to meet policies and procedures, assemble budgets and other documentation, and ensure the regulatory requirements are met prior to setting up of expenditure accounts.

The position would report any major grant submissions or post-grant award, budgetary, or non-compliance issues to the attention of the NAASIC Business Development Director. The consequences for errors or misjudgments could undermi ne the University’s and NAASIC’s current and future UAS program advancements by bringing the department’s professional credibility into question.

The NAASIC Grant Writer is required to make independent decisions with minimal instruction and supervision. The decisions and judgments made affect the department and the University directly with respect to operation, grant awards and budgets, the Knowledge

Fund, and the support of faculty and staff needs related to grant research, submission and award support. The incumbent assumes responsibility for accurately identifying requirements for and deficiencies in grant submission requirements. The Grant Writer will review grant awards and contracts and make decision about the extent of compliance with university and NSHE policies and procedures, and, if non-compliance is evident, make
