1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Director, Corporate Relations and Outreach, strategically cultivates and strengthens corporate
relations with and between employers, students, alumni, and faculty to maximize academic outreach
and service activities for graduate student visibility and employment. The position works to enhance
and promote the regional and national presence of the College of Business (COB) by strategically
identifying and building relationships with state, regional, national, and international employers and by
matching COB’s students, alumni, and faculty with employers for internships, employment, and
project partnerships. Major responsibilities are the development and management of the corporate
relations office in COB, development of an employer program strategy, and internal and external
event planning for educational activities and interaction between graduate students, alumni, faculty,
and employers. The Director reports to the Dean, COB, however the development director for the
college and the Executive Director of Development in the Development and Alumni Relations division
will provide input for the annual evaluation on development related activities.

40% - Program Management
 Implement employer relationship and outreach development strategies to target regional
employers and sell college programs
 Employ strategies including cold calling, professional association membership, direct mail,
referrals, and cross-industry marketing to increase employer interest and participation
 Establish measurable criteria for employer development goals, interpret and apply information
from customer relationship management database
 Establish and lead an employer program development committee consisting of faculty,
corporations, alumni, and graduate students to develop and promote relationships, educational
and employment opportunities
 Participate in organizations and groups to cultivate potential recruitment and position
opportunities by serving in a liaison/public relations capacity with college boards and
committees
 Recruits, hires, and supervises graduate assistants assigned to the program
 Serve as a consultative resource to corporations by recommend recruiting options, strategies,
and sponsorship opportunities
 Develop relationships with private sector, public sector and nonprofit employers to facilitate
career opportunities for University graduate students and alumni and to increase the diversity
and quality of recruiters at the college
 Design and develop marketing materials for faculty, students, and employers including
composing web site content and coordinating timing of communications to participants
 Secure financial support through coordinated efforts with central development to enable
programming to meet established goals and manage budgets
 Work with the Development Director to coordinate COB Associate and Advisory Board
activities. Record entries into development database, Raiser’s Edge, to reflect development

30% - Career Development and Support
 Develop and design a career program for COB graduate students
 Identify and recruit full-time and part-time employment, paid internships, and summer
opportunities for graduate students and alumni for placement with industry partners
 Provide comprehensive services and information resources that enable students to take active
responsibility for their career decisions and job searches
 Measure and assess the success of the career program activities and events
 Initiate, direct and implement networking events to facilitate interaction of students and alumni
job seekers with corporations seeking to hire
 Provide consultation for employers regarding branding their organizations on campus
 Encourage consensus and full participation by COB departments
20% - MBA and Differential Fee Administration
 Direct and manage the activities of the Differential Fee Oversight Committee, which works
directly with the Dean to give feedback on the graduate programs and provides
recommendations to use the resources to improve/enhance the MBA and graduate programs
 Create differential fee spending and compliance reports for Dean’s Office, Central
Administration, and Board of Regents on an annual basis
 Create and manage the on-line E-Master of Business Administration (EMBA) through College
of Extended Studies and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program budgets
 Serve on the Program Application Committees playing a key role assessing EMBA and MBA
candidate qualifications with Associate Dean
5% - Develop Faculty/EmployerRelationships and Services
 Provide program opportunities for faculty to learn more about key employers and their
opportunities via site visits and employer presentations
 Identify opportunities to match COB faculty expertise with corporate needs for training,
research, and other purposes
5% - Curriculum Input
 Identify mechanisms to collect information from corporate partners on emerging trends and
skills needs for program graduates. Analyze data and provide to faculty
 Make recommendations on new ideas for COB coursework and provide corporations with
access to and connection with faculty, graduate students and alumni to match company and
educational goals
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Director represents COB and the University to employers and professional business associations
in development and promotion of the program and makes decisions to benefit employer partners,
faculty, and students. The individual works directly with corporation presidents and CEOs to conduct
educational outreach and sponsorship development. The position uses independent judgment in
identifying and developing business and industry relationships for matching of job requirements with
graduate students and alumni. Program development, fund raising/sponsorships, company
recruitment, and coordination of internships and student placement involve working in coordination
with the COB Development Director and central development policies as well as with the Director,
Career Services for COB. The position reports progress and interactions with industry and alumni to
the Dean. The Dean is consulted on curricular recommendations, direction of fundraising
opportunities, and in establishing goals.

Impact:
The position is very visible to students and industry and therefore has a direct impact on the
perception of the University, COB, and its reputation. The position enhances the quality of placement
and the range of opportunities for students and graduates. Successful employment of graduates and
tracking of those graduates impacts accreditation and program rankings. Inappropriate employment
matching of students with employers could cause dissatisfaction among employers with program and
discontinuance of partnerships with COB and the University.
