Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Reporting to the Mountain West Clinical Translational Research—Infrastructure Network (CTR-IN) Project Coordinator and under the general supervision of the CTR-IN Principal Investigator , the Coordinator manages the activities of the Scientific Review and Mini-Grant Unit of the Administrative Core Key Component Activity (KCA) for the Mountain West CTR-IN. The CTR-IN is a consortium involving 13 universities in 7 states in partnership with the National Institutes for Health (NIH). The incumbent supports the scientific review process for the pilot grants, visiting scholar awards, mini-sabbaticals and mini-grants offered by the CTR-IN for junior faculty. The incumbent organizes and manages ad hoc scientific reviews for proposals that investigators funded by the program intend to submit to the NIH and other major funding agencies. The position reports to the CTR-IN Principal Investigator (PI). 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 30% - External Advisory Committee and Scientific Reviewers NIH has awarded the consortium Universities with $XX which is disbursed to multiple researchers. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) holds the overall grant funding; sub-awards are hosted by the home institution. This position and its supervisor coordinate the application process for sub-awards on an annual basis. Support the Chairman of the External Advisory Committee (EAC) with all aspects of EAC business Coordinate interactions with the Project Coordinator and the External Advisory Committee Organize and facilitate meetings of the EAC, including travel and video conferencing Coordinate the research proposal review process in conjunction with Project Coordinator Recruit scientific reviewers from consortium universities; maintain a bank of reviewers Ensure reviewers are properly set-up as independent contractors and payments occur Assign reviewers to research proposals according to scientific specialty areas and facilitate review process by sending proposals to reviewers and collecting review data timely Collect, compile, organize and distribute reviewer data to the EAC for final selection of subawardees Analyze reviewer data for validity, consistency and trends and offer preliminary recommendations regarding reviewer quality to the Project Coordinator Communicate with applicants regarding application status Monitor and track the process of sub-awards granted by the Committee 20% - Pilot Grants Coordination The consortium has the ability to award a one-time $10,000 pilot grant. Level of Freedom: The Coordinator is accountable to the leadership of the Mountain West Clinical CTR-In and the NIH Program Office for the scientific review activities that are an essential requirement for the continuation of the $20.3 million grant involving 13 universities in 7 states. The position consults with the PI on issues of non-submission or non-review of proposals by assigned reviewers. Impact: Failure to perform responsibilities of the position efficiently, effectively and accurately in organizing and conducting the scientific review activities, and in summarizing and reporting the results of those would endanger the continuation of the $20.3 million grant. Failure to gather and provide accurate program information to researchers and reviewers could cause damage to researchers’ success in their research projects as well as impact the reputation of individual universities and the overall program. 4.
