1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

The Coordinator, Broadcasting and Content, at KUNR is responsible for coordinating a consistent
radio broadcast/online presence through review of KUNR broadcasts, website and social media
outlets and radio automation systems. The incumbent is responsible for identifying proper online
content, posting web and social media content, and coordinating the social media activities of the
station, including other station staff. The Coordinator hosts assigned programs with a professional
sound and presence in keeping with station standards for on-air performance. The position reports to
the Program Director.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide

40% - Online Content & Operations Coordination
 Lead the station’s online and social media efforts; coordinate, review and assess staff
participation for consistent, growing presence on Facebook, Twitter, kunr.org and other
platforms
 Develop station guidelines for social media activities; train staff regarding proper use of social
media
 Evaluate and enhance procedures to ensure programs, announcements and other broadcast
elements are aired as scheduled and documented consistently and appropriately
 Initiate improvements, plan, program and troubleshoot automation system to assure system is
programmed correctly for proper airing of automated programming, and that any issues are
corrected promptly
 Create daily and weekly photos/audio/video/text content related to local news, station events,
public affairs and national programming; post to the station website and social media
 Oversee station website and streaming service, working with Information Technology (IT) and
National Public Radio (NPR) Digital Services for website maintenance, updates, design,
creative content and training and support for staff in using the system
 Research and identify changing technologies, emerging resources, evolving practices and
newly available content and tools for an increased online presence
 Initiate communication with station manager and staff related to issues with social media or
online content, procedures/practices or broadcast operations
 Assist with audience, trends and program research and presentations
 Provide input and ideas for improving station programming, content, execution or sound of the
station
 Coordinate the writing, editing or production of station promos, Public Service Announcements
(PSA) and other station material
 Coordinate part-time fill-in staff coverage as needed
 Supervise one or more University creative/photography/web interns

Ensure current FCC regulations are followed and communicated to on-air staff to maintain
legal radio operations
Monitor the Emergency Alert System, news developments, road conditions, traffic, weather
and other items to broadcast timely information and updates
Complete daily broadcast, monitoring and logging duties to fulfill station and federal
requirementsRecord and edit promotional announcements, interviews and other material
Serve as a board operator for call-in shows and fundraising drives
Produce public affairs interviews and programming as assigned
Participate in station and community initiatives or programs
20% - News
 Write, gather, edit and record news in keeping with station priorities and news department
practices
 Produce live or recorded newscasts
 Pitch story ideas to news department
 Assist during local breaking news emergencies and help with major news coverage
 Use sound news judgment, discuss stories with news department and request editing for news
stories
 Provide editing and editorial feedback for news team and other staff as necessary
 Participate fully in news meetings and planning sessions
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
Under broad guidelines set by the Station Manager, the Coordinator operates with general daily
supervision and with significant latitude for independent decision making on areas of communicating
and developing news stories in the most effective way, i.e., KUNR website, Facebook, Twitter,
Tumblr, and other social networks. The Coordinator is expected to produce his or her newscasts,
making good editorial decisions throughout the on-air shift. The Coordinator is expected to coordinate
with the Program Director and/or other jourjnalists/broadcasters on staff to ensure a well-planned
effort that results in a polished product for later use. The Station Manager approves recommendations
for improving station programming, content, execution or sound of the station.
Impact:
The Coordinator’s initiative, judgment, problem-solving, input and leadership have an immediate and
lasting impact on the quality and overall perception of KUNR and of the University. Strong execution
of responsibilities in this position helps increase audience listening and encourages financial support
for the station, while poor execution can cause audience tune-out and diminishing audience financial
support. Strong local and regional news compliments the strong NPR programming that grows
listernership and attracts contributions and business sponsors. Failing to adhere to Federal and state
laws could have severe legal and financial implications for the University.
