Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The position of Associate Director, Raggio Research Center (RRC) for STEM Education, is selffunded solely through sponsored research and training grants from national and state agencies and foundations. As such, the incumbent is responsible for identifying developing, writing, submitting, and administering grant proposals individually and in collaboration with others both across campus, in the community, and at other institutions to secure new and continuing funding. The incumbent is responsible for overall management of multiple grants ensuring that they are well managed both fiscally and programmatically. The position supervises grant personnel, both professional and classified staff, as well as graduate and undergraduate student workers. The incumbent is responsible for all reporting required by the University and granting agencies, ensuring compliance with the agencies’ fiscal policies and with the grant requirements. Funding secured by the incumbent ties directly into the University’s research and outreach missions, providing support and training for faculty and students, and professional development funds and training to Nevada’s K-12 teachers, especially those in rural districts and under-served populations (based on ethnicity, race, gender, disability, geographic location, socio-economic status, etc.). The position is housed in the Raggio Research Center (RRC) for “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics” (STEM) Education in the College of Education (COE) and has campus, statewide, and national foci. The position reports to the Dean, College of Education. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: Problems and issues within grant projects must be dealt with and solved in innovative and practical ways, requiring judgment to be exercised in situations where there are few, if any, policies or precedents, and where approaches are only generally defined. The incumbent is often required to adapt methods to meet evolving conditions. The individual is solely responsible for proposal development and submission and administration of multiple million dollar budgets for grants received from federal, state, and local sources. The Associate Director assigns projects to staff and oversees and ensures compliance with grant requirements, and gives final approval of actions. The individual must identify partners and cultivate and maintain relationships to ensure future funding and growth of STEM educational programs. The individual must identify emerging opportunities to advocate for and promote the STEM program. The Associate Director consults with the Dean and Director on long-term strategic planning and goals of the unit. The Associate Director advises the Dean on new collaborative partnerships formed. Impact: Decisions and judgments impact the RRC, COE faculty and students, and K-12 teachers and students statewide in Nevada’s rural counties through the funding that is acquired and the services provided, including educational technology and training. Grants are of national and state significance in educational technology and professional development research and training for faculty, students and K-12 teachers and students. Decisions and judgments contribute to the overall mission of the RRC, COE and the University by security external funds to support education, research and outreach, as well as providing employment for graduate and undergraduate students. Decisions and judgments impact increased or decreased funding for projects, departments, colleges, and universities. Administrative policies and procedures are developed by the incumbent who has considerable latitude for independent action and is evaluated on the results of these actions. 4.
