GROUP PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
Students are required to create and present a five-minute theatre piece.
Date: Wednesday, May 4, 2005
Time: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM in Humanities 102

As a group, choose a topic from the following list (other topics must be approved by the
Professor):

Stereotypes

Oppression

Violence (prevention, necessity, global, youth, etc.)

Myths, folktales or legends

Status (power, authority, control, etc.)

Cultural traditions

Spirituality

Identity

Exclusion
Develop the following:
a. CONCEPT AND PURPOSE.
b. THEME
c. STYLE: Real or unrealistic.
d. UNIFICATION How will all elements come together as a whole?
DECIDE ON WHO TAKES CHARGE OF WHAT (one person may take on more
than one role if group members agree)
e. playwright(s)
f. director(s) or group effort
g. actors
h. production duties if applicable (costumes, scenery, props, lights and sound)

WRITE A REPORT (20 points)
Submit a typed and double-spaced report on the day of your presentation.
Short Answer
1. Your first and last name, Date, Course Number and Instructor’s Name
2. Your Group Project Number
3. Names of all group members and their roles (what their duties were) in the piece
4. The Topic, Theme and Title of your theatre piece
5. The Setting of your piece: Time and Place
Short Essay
6. How did you contribute to the process? What did you do? Write specific
examples.
7. Determine your artistic intention. How do you want the audience to react?
Making the audience laugh is not enough. What will you do to elicit emotional
responses from the audience? How will your strategies/tactics support your
intention? Clearly describe them (acting choices, script-writing choices,
blocking, stage pictures, lighting, sound etc). What do you want the audience to
take away from this theatrical experience?

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION POLICY (40 points)
Attendance will be taken during each in-class rehearsal. Ten points will be deducted
for each in-class rehearsal missed. Grading is based on commitment, effort and
subjective evaluation. Points will be deducted for lack of participation (as documented
by student evaluations in the final reports).
VI.
Production elements (costumes, scenery, props, sound and lighting) are highly
encouraged, but not required. Production elements can enhance the theatrical experience
as well as support the actors with tangible materials to work with.
VII.
No outside guests are permitted to attend the Group Project Presentation Day.
