The right side of the folders contains information about UVU’s Mission, Core Themes and Objectives, the Rationale and Executive Summary for UVU’s Unique Educational Mission and UVU’s Legislative Priorities for 2012. The left side contains information to assist in contacting our legislators and providing information on how to get involved. Clint noted that the Infrastructure Committee is the entity to contact in order to get a building approved. Tips Communication – When contacting your legislators, it needs to be done appropriately. Keep emails limited to no more than two paragraphs and put “I am a constituent” in the subject line. It is also appropriate to write regarding other issues as well as UVU’s. The PACE Board was encouraged to review Senator Urquhart’s blog at steveu.com . He is the Chair of the Higher Education Appropriations Committee. The new 2020 Plan is available. Contact Leslie Farnsworth if you would like a copy of the presentation. Leslie encouraged all PACE members to attend the UHESA Day at the Capitol and meet their legislators. Policy Review. Jolene Nuttall welcomed Kat Brown, Assistant VP for Academic Affairs. Kat Brown noted this is a new policy developed due to a court case at the University of Utah. Policy 612 – Course Content Modifications. The Board was in agreement to proposed policy and approved the policy move on in the approval process. 4. UHESA 5. UHESA is a state organization for staff associations to network and see what other organizations are doing. Leslie attended a meeting in St George last week. She reported that UVU stood out among the organizations due to the support from President’s Council. One item to note is that there is a report coming out indicating what the median salaries are for staff in school like UVU and compares it to the poverty level. The report indicates that the median salary is above poverty level, but not much. Leslie will forward the document when she receives it to PACE for possible use. President’s Council/Leadership Council. 6. UVU’s Scholarship Drive this past year received over $4 Million and one significant contribution of $1 Million was from the Huntsmans. Policies coming up through the pipeline to watch out for: o Probationary period – The probationary period will change to 6 months with the ability to extend another 6 months. It also indicates employment is at will. o Performance evaluations – Basically says we do them and encourages supervisors do annually. o Corrective action – UVU is moving away from probation as a disciplinary step to a progressive discipline such as verbal warnings to written warnings, etc. Policies are going to President’s Council this week for approval to Stage 2.
