The March Revolution (March 1917)
In March 1917, women textile workers in Petrograd led a citywide
strike. Riots began over shortages of bread and fuel. The beginning of
these demonstrations led to an uprising that forced Czar Nicholas to
abdicate his throne on March 2, 1917.
In April 1917, Vladimir Lenin returns to Russia with German assistance.
By the fall of 1917, Lenin controlled the Petrograd Soviet rallying people
through the slogan of:
PEACE, LAND, AND BREAD
Lenin had several published pieces that outlined not only the demands
that were made by the Bolsheviks, but the vision that the
revolutionaries had of what governments should provide society.
