Getting Meaning from context
Sometimes abbreviations (shortened forms of
words) help us to understand a new word or
phrase:
e.g.= for example
i.e.= that is = in other words
This is a group of microentreprenuers—i.e. people
who own and run their own small business.
Who are microentrepreneurs?
Read the text entitled “Banking on the Poor” [Interactions
2, pp. 47-48]
3.1. Summarizing (p.49)

ideas you may skim the text quickly.
The focus is not in the details, but in the main idea
(topic). A paragraph usually tells about one topic
(subject). The topic is just a word or noun phrase---a few
words.
Read the text again pp. 47-48 and find topic and topic
sentence of each paragraph.
