CRIME SYNDICATES TARGETING ESKOM VENDORS
Eskom wishes to warn their vendors and the general public about a scam that is
currently circulating in the Eskom environment. A crime syndicate approaches
Eskom vendors and requests quotations for goods such as Ipads. Upon receipt
of the quote a fraudulent Task Order is issued to the unsuspecting vendor with
instructions where the order should be delivered. This is normally a “rush order”
and the syndicate requests urgent delivery. There has been an instance where
the unsuspecting vendor delivered the goods to a shopping centre, upon
instruction from “Eskom.” The scam has now progressed from Ipads to chain
saws, brush cutters and circuit breakers.
Eskom wishes to request their vendors to please not fall victim to this scam.
Anyone who comes across such practices or who is approached with such
fraudulent documents should contact Eskom’s toll-free crime line at 0800 11 27
22 or investigate@eskom.co.za to report this immediately.
