Fueling growth with enterprise cloud services Dualtec positions for regional growth with a cloud strategy built on an open platform, and a Cisco® data center at its core. “The OpenStack platform gives us the agility we need to explore new avenues and expand our business.” - Lauro de Lauro, Founder and CEO, Dualtec Cloud Builders An emerging economy’s success hinges on innovation. A growing cloud provider in Brazil set out to expand its business—and help bolster the nation in the process. Challenges • Accelerate deploying new services • Increase revenues by diversifying customer base • Simplify operations For Dualtec, the sky is the limit. Acquired in 2013 by Universo Online (UOL)—Brazil’s largest Internet service provider—Dualtec set out to capture the medium-sized enterprise market with its cloud-computing offerings. These include cloud infrastructure, as well as managed services for security, data backup, collaboration, mobility, and management solutions. At the same time, Dualtec was uniquely positioned to capitalize on Brazil’s status as an emerging global economy. Local companies that wanted to harness the power of an enterprise-class public cloud for their workloads lacked local support and were billed in foreign currencies. There was also a growing demand for private cloud deployments. “A hybrid cloud provides the flexibility that local companies need to compete effectively in the global economy,” says Lauro de Lauro, founder and CEO of Dualtec. “We needed to transform our data center to help support their business objectives while also creating new revenue streams for Dualtec.” Case Study | Dualtec Cloud Builders Size: 68 Employees Location: Sao Paulo, Brazil © 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. Industry: Managed Services Provider 1 To expand its business and better support customers, Dualtec needed a powerful data center infrastructure running a flexible platform that would serve as an engine for growth. Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®) powers a hybrid cloud for IT innovation and business agility. • Built a flexible, scalable, and agile data center on the Red Hat OpenStack platform Solutions • Simplified data center operations with Cisco UCS Manager for centralized access and control Building on shared global knowledge 40% EFFICIENCY INCREASE 35% OPEX REDUCTION Dualtec launched its Dualtec Public Cloud, an enterprise-level public cloud offering in Brazil on the Red Hat OpenStack platform—the first of its kind in the region. The company is also beginning to deploy private clouds in customer data centers. “There is a lot of buzz about OpenStack in Brazil, which brings a great deal of attention to Dualtec,” says Renato Armani, head of innovation at Dualtec. “By building our new cloud services on OpenStack, we can leverage the benefits of Cisco infrastructure while also avoiding being locked into a single cloud vendor. It gives us the opportunity to collaborate on new developments versus having to work in a silo.” Accelerating the pace of business Cisco UCS is the cornerstone of Dualtec’s new public cloud offering. Dualtec uses the tight integration between OpenStack and Cisco UCS Manager to accelerate deploying new services. As a result, the company has reduced its own server-provisioning time from 1 week to a few hours, helping to accelerate its own growth as well as its customers’. Camil Alimentos SA is a food-processing company in Brazil that used the OpenStack platform during an advertising campaign to handle a tenfold spike in website traffic. “Dualtec met our need for scalability and flexibility, and provided a reliable environment for our workloads,” says Marcio Cassan, IT coordinator for Camil. Providing the foundation for future innovation Dualtec is beginning to see a shift in its client base thanks to the added autonomy that the Dualtec Public Cloud offers customers. “Our newer customers prefer to run their own cloud environments,” says Armani. “Rather than having to call in and open multiple support tickets, they can manage their environment through a single control panel.” © 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. In a 2-month period, the company significantly reduced administration time, while estimating a savings of 70 percent by not having to invest in new hardware. Providing valuable local services and support “We are competing against and winning business from companies that have no local staff and bill in foreign currencies,” says Armani. “Having a local cloud provider that can compete on a global level is important for the future of innovation in Brazil.” A complete cloud solution As a new Cisco Intercloud Fabric provider, Dualtec can offer customers complete hybrid cloud solutions, generating new revenue streams. “We can seamlessly extend data and applications into our public cloud with the same visibility, security, and control that customers experience in a private cloud environment,” says Armani. • Increased revenue by adding 170 new customers in 1 year Results • Enhanced efficiency by 40 percent • Reduced operating expenses by 35 percent and hardware costs by 25 percent Advancing innovation, one technology at a time The automation and policy-driven model of Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) is driving data center efficiency to the next level. Dualtec plans to deploy Cisco ACI in early 2016 to further accelerate service delivery and manage application lifecycles. “We are committed to providing our customers with choices and flexibility,” says de Lauro. “Cisco technology makes this possible.” © 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates.
