SPECIAL MEETING/PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX RATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM September 13, 2001 Minutes The Board of Trustees of the Houston Community College System held a Special Meeting on September 13, 2001, at the System Administration Building, 2nd Floor Auditorium, 3100 Main, Houston, Texas. Smith ADMINISTRATION Patricia Williamson, Vice Chancellor, Institutional Development Gloria Walker, Executive Director, Accounting Operations Sylvia Ramos, President, Southeast College Isabel Nart, Director of Governmental Relations Brenda Cox, Interim Assistant to the Chancellor OTHERS PRESENT Other administrators, representatives from the news media and Interested citizens CALL TO ORDER Chairman Austin called the meeting to order at 4:34 p.m. and declared the Board convened to consider matters pertaining to the Houston Community College System as listed in the duly posted meeting notice. Houston Community College System Public Hearing on Tax Rate – September 13, 2001 – Page 2 PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED AD VALOREM TAX RATE FOR 2001 Mr. Austin gave preface to the Public Hearing and asked if any duly registered speakers were present. The Board will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 25, 2001, at the System Administration Building to vote on the proposed tax rate. Paul Bettencourt, Harris County Tax Assessor Collector, expressed appreciation to the Board for their recent decision to increase the residential homestead exemption for persons aged 65 and older. He then discussed increases in the value of residential and commercial properties in Harris County. According to Mr. Bettencourt, taxpayer bills would increase every year without decreases in tax rates, and called for across-the-board tax relief. Mr. Austin thanked Mr. Bettencourt for his remarks.
