USES
CHOCOLATE AGAR with BACITRACINE, VANCOMYCINE and AMPHOTERICIN B is used for the isolation of Haemophilus
species from clinical samples.
The Columbia agar Base is a medium rich in nutrients. Blood is an additional source that provides growth factors for the
micro-organisms and is the basis for determining haemolytic reactions. Gentamycin and Amphotericin B are the selective
agents. The isolation of fastidious organisms from specimens containing mixed flora is facilitated by selective agents.
Bacitracin, Vancomycin and Amphotericin B has been recommended for isolation of Haemophilus from the respiratory
tract.
The colour of the prepared plates is browish.
Inoculate and incubate the medium at 35ºC ± 2ºC for 48 hours in an atmosphere containing 7% carbon dioxide.
MICROBIOLOGICAL TEST
The following results were obtained in the performance of the medium from type cultures after incubation at a 35°C for
48 hours in an atmosphere containing 7% carbon dioxide.
