The visual binary orbit (in which the stars average 45 AU separation) takes 225 years
(Heintz, 1978). Motion direct, semi-major axis of 3.77", highly inclined orbit. The stars
share a very large common proper motion.
The companion is an extremely close eclipsing binary (W UMa type) with a
combined mass of 2.1 Suns, composed of two dwarfs that eclipse each other in a nearly
circular orbit (implying an old orbit) that takes only 6.4 hours to complete! There
appears to be mass transfer between the two stars also.
Observations:
C8 at 280x. Webb saw them as Y, B in 1832 but as Y and V in 1850. He points out
that F. Struve and Argelander differ greatly on the colors.
