Notes:
AB 1830: 13.6 @ 250. 68 measurements.
The primary is a spectroscopic binary (10.893 day period).
The visual binary has an orbit of 50 years and the stars are at least 4,300 AU apart.
There is evidence for a shell surrounding the primary.
The system belongs to the Cep OB1 Association.
Beta Cep stars are classed as the same type of stars as Beta CMa stars. They are hot,
massive O9 to B3 stars just leaving the Main Sequence.
Observations:
C8 at 65x. Webb saw them as gW and B, then later as W and B. Franks in 1914
thought they were gW, V.
Scale model (in which the Sun is the size of a baseball):
Diameter: A = 15.00 inches; B = 8.10 inches.

NGC 7142
Other Names: Collinder 442, H VII 66
Astronomical League Program: Herschel 400 Certificate
Rating: 4 E
Position: 2146+6548
Type : Oc
Dimensions: 4.3'
Class: I 2r
Cluster population: 100
Magnitude : 9.3
Notes:
It is 4 billion years old! Its earliest spectral type is a stodgy old F3. 186 stars belong
to this group. The brightest star is 12.1m.
The secret to its longevity lies in its position in the galaxy: 31,500 light years from
the galactic center and 1.600 light years above its plane.
Observations:
C8 at 104x. It resembles a cluster of grapes! Delicate and rich; note the 9m star on
the N side.
Model (where the Sun is a baseball):
Its diameter would be 1,330 miles, with the stars 139 miles (224 km) apart.
Distance (LY): 3,300
