William Herschel resolved it in 1784. Lord Rosse saw several dark marks within 5 min of the center. It is 220 light years in diameter, 10 billion years old, and has the mass of 140,000 suns. 189 variables have been counted in this globular. The brightest stars are 12.7m and the horizontal branch is 15.7m. There are a total of about 300,000 stars in this cluster. The sun at this distance would shine at 20.4m. Observations: C8 at 104x. Awesome! Resolved at 104x, it fills the field and is very dense. Use medium powers for the best view. C11 at 115x. It fills 1/4 of the field of view and the outliers are resolved. Considerably brighter center. C11 at 193x. Resolved all across the face. It looks slightly lopsided. C11 at 339x. Not as impressive as at 193x.
