This week we reviewed how text features can help you when reading nonfiction text. There are different ways to use text features. Some readers look at the pictures, diagrams, captions, etc. first. Others find it helpful to look at them after they read the entire text and still other readers look at them as they are reading the text. The important thing is that we use them.
The students are continuing to work on a piece of writing to include in our first published magazine. This week we began to learn more revision strategies. During writing, the students started to work on a piece for
Young Authors.
We completed the second half of module 5, dealing with geometry.
There are a lot of terms that the students should know. We will continue to be learning and reviewing them throughout the rest of the year.
The class did some research on food chains. We also had a special presentation from Mrs. Malek, the head of communications for District
95. She began to help the students decide how they want to communicate the Cuba Marsh problem and solution with the community.
I think everyone is excited.
Please remember to bring winter coats, snow pants, boots, hats and gloves for outdoor recess. As long as the temperature and wind chill remain above 0ºF, we will have outdoor recess!
