Rummage Sale Pays It Forward

Thank you to all who contributed your time and treasure to make Rummage Sale 2015 the best yet! Our community came together to support a wonderful cause raising roughly $1200 in just 4 short hours with

100% of the profits being donated to Madison Cares.

Many of your donations went to new homes in the area but we also heard stories from customers explaining they were shipping the clothes purchased to Haiti and Jamaica. It's amazing to think of the shoes of kids in Madison being used in another country.

Not everything sold, however, but the donations are not heading for a landfill. Instead, several organizations are the beneficiary. All books went to the Madison library and we've been told they're used on either their shelves, to be sold or given away as prizes for the summer reading club. Electronic apparatus is heading for Camp Invention, a summer day camp asking students to construct and deconstruct equipment here at CAS. A representative from Peaceworks came and carried off unsold sports equipment and craft items to be mailed in a container to Nicaragua. They use those items to keep kids and young adults busy and "off the streets." Who knew Rainbow Loom rubber bands could be so valuable? Finally, Big Brother Big Sister is getting the remainder of the donations.

I'd like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who helped sort, display, sell and bring heavy purchases to the cars. Also, a huge shout out to all the kids of CAS who helped work at the sale. I'm not surprised but I am amazed at their work ethic and cheerful spirit. Way to go!

On Friday, we held our very first International Day (Cultural Day). The students were engaged, excited, and learned information about a wide array of countries and cultures. What was so special was how authentic this experience was for the students. Our volunteers are from these cultures or countries, which was special and enhanced the experience. These volunteers worked hard and their enthusiasm and love for their culture was contagious! I would like to thank our volunteers and Laura Axler, Susanna

Spaziana-Testa, Jennifer Bauman, and Haley Blanchard for all of their hard work, dedication, time, and most importantly for fostering a love of culture.
