The category of adjectives
(both long and short) was
introduced. Students were
able to recognize adjectives
of three grammatical
genders in the nominative
case (singular and plural)
and later, after all the cases
were introduced, were able
to decline adjectives
correctly. The students used
the Exercise Book devised
by the instructor. In spring
2015, students showed a
complete understanding of
adjectives as a separate part
of speech and were able to
use adjectives in oral

cases (genitive, accusative,
dative, and instrumental).
Among the four new cases
introduced this semester,
the genitive case was the
most difficult. Because of
its abundant use in Russian
the students were required
to do more exercises with
genitive case and do more
multiple choice tests. They
used the Exercise Book
devised by the instructor.
In spring 2015, students
showed a thorough
understanding of the
concept of cases and were
able to use them correctly
in written tests and oral
presentations.
The assessment showed
that only 10% of students
could not use different
cases correctly all the time.
Most students got an A or
