Mrs. Slaters’ Friday Note!
Dear Parents,
Please look over the papers your child has been bringing home throughout the week.
Through open communication, we can work together to ensure a successful school year for all!
Though there are only 25 school days left, students are still earning Dojo and think points. Our
treasure box is completely empty. If you’d like to donate “booty”, the kids would be so happy!
This Week’s Highlights
Upcoming Events
Reading – In our ongoing investigation of poetry,
a focus has been on learning and practicing word
attack strategies to help the children figure out
new/unknown words. They have been using the
rhyme scheme of the poem, their background
knowledge, and their schema along with the
content of the poem to make educated guesses
as to the meaning of new/unknown words.
Students also used clues to recognize the
feelings inside a poem by looking at various
literary devices and formatting techniques.
April 29th – Variety Show from 7:00-9:00 PM
May 2nd – MAP testing
May 9th – MAP testing
May 13th – High Tech High Touch Visit
May 20th – Early Release – Children are
dismissed at 12:50 PM
Writing – Student are reading nonfiction texts,
identifying the main idea, and finding the
supporting details for the main idea. Next, they
are putting the supporting details in their own
words using complete sentences. Students are
writing acrostic poems this week, too!
The Variety Show is tonight from 7:00 9:00 PM
in the SL/MSN cafeteria and stage. Come see the
amazing talent of our fabulous students! A good
time is sure to be had by all. 
With the end of the year drawing near, we are
out of supplies and are still in need of these
items through the end of the year. Any donations
of pencils, glue sticks, and bottles of glue would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
*Please check out the newest Class Dojo
videos and posts to listen to Roominate
presentations given by your little learners.
Though not everyone felt comfortable
presenting, all students contributed their ideas
and brilliant engineering to create their
structures!
Math – The children continue to extend their
addition strategies to three-digit numbers using
the count on strategy and place value. They are
defining and identifying polyhedrons, flat and
curved faces, edges, and vertices. Whew!
Science – Our exploration of plants continues!
We are locating the parts of a plant and
identifying their roles in the life cycle of a plant.
