Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web): Ensuring the voice of young carers in developing relevant services and support Young people can experience both positive and negative impacts of providing unpaid, regular care to their family members. In Ireland it has been recognised that services and supports should be provided to these young carers. Using participative research processes, this project will aim to listen to the voice and opinions of young carers with respect to the development of services and accessibility to supports. Reviewing best practice internationally and working with service providers, carer organisations and policy makers, this work should help to ensure that the needs of young carers in Ireland are responded to in a timely and appropriate manner. Unique selling points of PhD project in NUI Galway: The Health Promotion Research Centre is unique in that it is the only dedicated research centre in Ireland and one of only a few in Europe addressing health promotion, health inequalities, public health and health improvement in a multidisciplinary context. We are a World Health Organisation collaborating centre for Health Promotion Research with dedicated PhD supports in place. Students can take some credit in the form of structured modules designed to facilitate transferable skill acquisition (including in teaching) and the Centre has strong collaborative links with other Universities across Europe and further afield, policy development and with practitioners in the field.
