AbstractID: 9053 Title: The Monte Carlo Simulated Prostate Brachytherapy Implantation with 48 IsoAid AdvantageTM 125I Sources ABSTRACT The Monte Carlo simulation method for Brachytherapy prostate implantation has been explored for the first time using 48 AdvantageTM 125 I sources. In this study, the sources were placed in a spherical prostate of 3 cm in diameter at intervals of 0.5 cm with a peripheral loading scheme. The doses at different cross sections along the longitudinal axis of the sources were calculated and the isodose curves were further generated. The validity and feasibility of the Monte Carlo technique for potential application for treatment planning in the clinic has then been tested by applying the 108 Gy prescription dose curves to the simulated doses. A source activity of 0.25 mCi is derived from the simulated results. The Monte Carlo simulation suggested source activity is found very close to the value obtained by the widely used clinic planning system VariSeedTM, and only 4% difference has been observed. This study indicates that the Monte Carlo technique is able to support a treatment planning system. 1
