Peer Review: Paper #3 (from Jessie Stickgold-Sarah)
For this peer review, focus on the following aspects of your partner’s paper:







Is there a clear and original thesis?
Are the thesis and the paper’s argument supported by the external sources?
Do the sources and quotations contribute to the paper? Are they wellexplained and well-integrated?
Are those sources correctly cited and signaled? Is it clear at all times whether
information and words come from the writer or the sources?
Is the writing active and energetic? Apply the principles of today’s class to
your review of this paper. Note areas of vagueness of generality (what would
Orwell say?) and if necessary make at least one suggestion for re-writing.
What was the most interesting thing you learned from this paper?
Review the six strategies of writing with sources. Find one place in the paper
where each strategy is used or note if any are missing.
1. Make your sources speak
2. Use your sources to ask questions
3. Put your sources into conversation with each other
4. Find your own role in the conversation
5. Supply continual analysis of sources (don’t wait until the end)
6. Ground your work in the text: use quotations and paraphrase
Your written review should be at least one full page long. On your partner’s paper, mark
errors in citation and correct them if possible. (This should be easy because you should
know all the citation rules from your own paper!) In addition, mark claims and evidence
by labeling sentences with “C” and “E.”
