Reading Comprehension Strategy Strategy: Text Mapping Appropriate Grade Level: 2 - 12 Procedures/Steps: Preparing the Text Map: 1. Analyze the reading passage to identify various organizational features that are used. 2. Identify relationships between the features and the important concepts. 3. Develop prompts that require connecting prior knowledge and emphasize understanding of the relationships. Pre-reading Process: 1. The teacher goes through the designed map with the students, making sure to emphasize the organizational aspects of the text. 2. The teacher or the students read the text. Post-reading Process: 1. The class discusses the text according to the text map that is provided. Comments and/or tips: - This strategy helps students develop a structure when reading, so that comprehension of the text is better achieved. - There are several post-reading activities that can be done.
