WW2 Summative: Frontline Newsletter
Overview
As the summative assignment for this unit you will be required to write your own personal
newsletter, similar to the Campion Champion which is produced several times a year by the
student body. The assignment will require you to use the knowledge and skills that you
have gained throughout this unit and apply it to create a newsletter that would be reflective
of people’s experiences during WW2, both overseas and on the home front.
Directions
You will go to the Campion website found at www.dpcdsb.org/CAMPI. Once there your will
click on the departments subheading found in the tool bar at the top of the page under
learning. Scroll down and click on the CWS icon. Next you are going to click on the CHC 2D1
subheading found on the left hand side of this page. Click on WW2 icon. Scroll down to the
very bottom of the page where you will find the newsletter template already done for you;
all you have to do is type in the information, save and then print.
Instructions
TASK ONE: Subheading: The title of the newsletter has already been given to you. However,
you will be responsible for coming up with a catchy and creative subheading that will be
placed underneath it. Make sure that your subheading is reflective of the information that
will be found in your newsletter.
TASK TWO: Newspaper Article: Adhering to the newspaper writing process that you have
been taught, you will be required to write a five paragraph newspaper article. You may use
your own imagination or any information that has been given to you throughout the unit to
help you fill in the information. In addition, you will have to come up with a caption to
describe the photo and a subheading. This has been clearly identified for you on the
template.
TASK THREE: Testimonials: In this section you have been given 3 different people who have
witnessed firsthand the devastation of WW2. For each of the people you must write a
response of how they felt afterwards.
TASK FOUR: Technology Time: In this section you are to choose a technological
advancement that was made during this time and discuss its impact/importance.
TASK FIVE: Message from King’s Desk: In this section, write a letter from King’s perspective
to Canadian citizens. Address what would be going on overseas as well as the Canadian
home front.
TASK SIX: Survival Stories: In this section you have been given three people who have
survived a major battle of WW2 and are here to recount their stories.
TASK SEVEN: Major Battles: Recount one major battle the Canadian troops participated in.
TASK EIGHT: Advertisement: You are to create an advertisement for a product or service
that would have been used during this time. Make sure that the product is relevant to the
time period (i.e. video games did not exist back then). Make sure you have a picture,
description and cost of the item.
