WW2 Summative: Frontline Newsletter Overview As the summative assignment for this unit you will be required to write your own personal newsletter, similar to the Campion Champion which is produced several times a year by the student body. The assignment will require you to use the knowledge and skills that you have gained throughout this unit and apply it to create a newsletter that would be reflective of people’s experiences during WW2, both overseas and on the home front. Directions You will go to the Campion website found at www.dpcdsb.org/CAMPI. Once there your will click on the departments subheading found in the tool bar at the top of the page under learning. Scroll down and click on the CWS icon. Next you are going to click on the CHC 2D1 subheading found on the left hand side of this page. Click on WW2 icon. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page where you will find the newsletter template already done for you; all you have to do is type in the information, save and then print. Instructions TASK ONE: Subheading: The title of the newsletter has already been given to you. However, you will be responsible for coming up with a catchy and creative subheading that will be placed underneath it. Make sure that your subheading is reflective of the information that will be found in your newsletter. TASK TWO: Newspaper Article: Adhering to the newspaper writing process that you have been taught, you will be required to write a five paragraph newspaper article. You may use your own imagination or any information that has been given to you throughout the unit to help you fill in the information. In addition, you will have to come up with a caption to describe the photo and a subheading. This has been clearly identified for you on the template. TASK THREE: Testimonials: In this section you have been given 3 different people who have witnessed firsthand the devastation of WW2. For each of the people you must write a response of how they felt afterwards. TASK FOUR: Technology Time: In this section you are to choose a technological advancement that was made during this time and discuss its impact/importance. TASK FIVE: Message from King’s Desk: In this section, write a letter from King’s perspective to Canadian citizens. Address what would be going on overseas as well as the Canadian home front. TASK SIX: Survival Stories: In this section you have been given three people who have survived a major battle of WW2 and are here to recount their stories. TASK SEVEN: Major Battles: Recount one major battle the Canadian troops participated in. TASK EIGHT: Advertisement: You are to create an advertisement for a product or service that would have been used during this time. Make sure that the product is relevant to the time period (i.e. video games did not exist back then). Make sure you have a picture, description and cost of the item.
