HOMELESS SHELTER MEETING Salvation Army Homeless Shelter will be holding a short meeting for all existing Volunteers and for any THE NEW TRANSLATION – LORD I AM NOT WORTHY As the priest invites us to receive Holy Communion, he will say ‘Behold the Lamb of God’, rather than ‘This is’. ‘Behold’ means ‘to look at’ and is our invitation to adore the Body and Blood of Christ, whom we are about to receive in Holy Communion. This phrase recalls two episodes recounted in St John’s Gospel (1:29‐42 and 19:5). The first comes near the beginning of the Lord’s public life, when John the Baptist points Jesus out, saying: “Look, here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”. This phrase also recalls the scene during the Lord’s Passion, when Pontius Pilate draws attention to Jesus as he emerges having been scourged and crowned with thorns. Pointing Jesus out to the crowd, Pilate says, “See, the man.” Both these passages are usually translated in English bibles as ‘Behold’. Another change in this section is that the priest will say, ‘Blessed are those called to the Supper of the Lamb.’ On the one hand, this is simply a more accurate translation, but it also draws out the connection between the Sacrifice of the Mass offered here on earth and the wedding banquet of the Lamb to which we are blessed to be invited in heaven (see Revelation 5). 108 Finally, we are used to saying ‘Lord I am not worthy to receive you’ ... This will change to: ‘Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed’. This is almost exactly what the Roman Centurion said when he came and begged Jesus to heal his servant: “Lord I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word and my servant will be healed” (Matthew 8:8). Our new reply changes only one word – ‘servant’ becomes ‘soul’ – in the Centurion’s speech, and the image of the house helps us to prepare our hearts and souls to be worthy and welcoming homes for the Eucharistic Lord. door to everyday life closes, and a new one opens to peacefulness and escape. The Theme this year is: “CHRIST OUR HOPE” The retreat takes place on November 25th, 26th and 27th – Friday, Saturday and Sunday For more information contact: Theresa Smith at (416) 620-5436 or Noreen Kearney at (905) 455-7079 PICTURES WITH SANTA – KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NOVEMBER MASSES FOR THE HOLY SOULS The month of November is traditionally dedicated to prayers for the dead.
