Dirty hands, beads of sweat and delicate blooms define Charlie Ryan’s
job as USC’s lead horticulturist. But that’s not why he comes to work
every day with a passion in his heart — a passion deeply rooted in his
university community. At Carolina, Charlie has found that — like the
plants he nurtures — students and staff are establishing their roots in
nature with his help. A mentor and guiding hand, Charlie celebrates
each time they find their inner self through the wonders of our natural
environment. In his own special way, Charlie is making our world
greener, cultivating one green thumb at a time.
