We shall not sleep though poppies grow in Flanders’ Fields. Remembrance Day Service On Wednesday, November 11 at 10:45 a.m. our Remembrance Day Service will be held in our gym. All are welcome. Poppies are available in the office for a small donation. November Virtue – Conscience / Everyone Needs to Learn to Live in Peace This month we will focus on the Virtue of Conscience. God has given us the ability to know the right and decent way to act and then to act that way. We trust that the common Spirit we share inspires us and guides us to make good decisions if we allow are conscience to be well informed. This includes: cooperation, forgiveness and peacefulness. First Reconciliation / First Communion First Reconciliation will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Parents and guardians are reminded to complete the purple Preparation Book prior to the middle of November. The purpose of this progress report is “to show a student’s development of the learning skills and work habits during the fall of the school year, as well as a student’s general progress in working towards the achievement of the curriculum expectations in all subjects.” Sacrament of Confirmation Parent / Student Meeting There will be a registration meeting for parents, grade 7 and 8 candidates and sponsors at St. Ignatius Loyola Church on: Tuesday, December 1, Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Registration materials will be distributed to the Grade 8 students in the first week of November. Please note that the program this year requires Mass attendance on two special weekends and also attendance at three preparation classes at St. Ignatius Loyola Church. It was a great experience for everyone! We collected $574.01. Thank you for your support! Thanksgiving Food Drive Many thanks for your contributions to our Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Salvation Army! An abundance of food was collected. This community effort benefits others and provides our students with a tangible example of Jesus’ message of helping one another. Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week November 16 – 20 is designated as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. We will continue to focus on respectful behaviour. Our Youth Faith Ambassadors will be reinforcing respect through inspirational quotes. We will continue to support students and emphasize strategies such as “WITS” – walk away; ignore; talk it out; seek help. Junior Boys and Girls Volleyball A great big COUGAR cheer goes out to our Junior Boys and Girls Volleyball teams who demonstrated great effort and teamwork. Your coaches thank you for all your hard work and sportsmanship! We look forward to a great season next year! A huge thank you to our coaches: Mrs. Zanatta and Ms DeJulio for all their time and dedication to our teams. Choir The St. Clare Choir continues to meet regularly and practice their singing. We always appreciate their beautiful voices at our Masses and liturgies. Thank you to Mrs. MacPherson, Mrs. Wickham and Mrs. Barlow for working with our choir. On November 13, 2015, the choir has been invited to sing O Canada at a Mississauga Steelheads Hockey Game. On this same evening families will have an opportunity to purchase tickets for this game as well as participate in a Family Skate at the Hershey Centre. Details for this event will be coming home with your children. Striving for Excellence Student Council Cross Country Congratulations to the St. Clare Cross Country Team! Our team had an amazing showing at the family meet. There were some incredible finishes and all of the coaches are proud of the hard work and determination of everyone involved. ShareLife Spirit Week c) Eco Angels: Shepherds of a Greener Earth Our Eco-Team has been doing a great job continuing what we started last year and starting new initiatives for this year. We are promoting care for the Earth and environment that God has given us. To achieve our GOLD certification last year, we focused on energy consumption, proper recycling and paper use reduction. This year, we will continue those past practices while also including a stronger emphasis on the benefits of walking to school and a campaign to promote reusable water bottles. The St. Clare Eco-Team is beginning a campaign to minimize disposable water bottle use at the school. Students are encouraged to use reusable water bottles everyday. Students are discouraged to bring disposable plastic water bottles to school. The Green Team will be monitoring how many students are remembering to use reusable drink containers on a daily basis. We can make a difference. An Eco-School is Eco-Cool! Mr. Murphy, Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Grattan and Mrs. Brady would like to thank all of the students for their ongoing participation in our ECO initiatives. We can all do our part to keep the world green. As one of our Student Council initiatives for this year, Spirit Week will begin on Monday, November 23 to Friday, November 27. Safe School Initiatives Before School Hours Supervision For your child’s safety, we request that he/she not be on school property until supervision begins at 8:15 a.m. This is when supervision begins. Visitors to the School By law, ALL visitors to the school must report to the main office using the doorbell for entry as all doors are locked. Our first priority for all students is their safety. Board and Provincial guidelines clearly outline the process that all visitors must follow upon their arrival on school property, which begins with reporting to the Main Office. You will be issued a Visitor Sticker, which must be worn visibly during your stay and sign in and sign out. Attendance and Punctuality All students are expected to attend school regularly and punctually. In the event that your child will be late or absent, please call the school and leave a message. This can be done 24 hours a day. For students who are absent and for whom a call is not received, we will attempt to contact you. This is essential in case of an emergency evacuation. Farewell… We say farewell to Mrs. Barlow, Special Education Resource Teacher, who is moving to her new role as Special Assignment Teacher. Mrs. Barlow has been at St. Clare for the past four years. She will be greatly missed and we wish her all of God’s blessings as she begins her new learning journey. We welcome Ms. Ste. Marie who will be taking on the role of Special Education Resource Teacher. Ms. Ste. Marie comes to us with a genuine care and concern for children and a love of teaching and learning. She will be a great addition to our school community. Reminders and Resources: Cold and Flu Season As cold and flu season approaches, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board continues to be vigilant in ensuring that our schools are clean and that our school communities are educated regarding good hand hygiene and cough etiquette.
