Good Afternoon, A parent engagement evening focused on inquiry as foundational to Learning in the 21 st Century has been planned to promote the Board’s Strategic Plan goal of Catholic Community Engagement. This event is planned for February 25 at St. Timothy Elementary School. This email is being sent to you to provide information to around this event. Parents are invited to attend Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s Parent Engagement Event at St. Timothy Elementary School on February 25 from 7:30 through 8:30. The event will feature thirty minute workshops on how inquiry is foundational to 21st Century Learning. This meeting runs from 6:30 through 7:30 p.m. Catholic School Council Chair is invited to this meeting and reminded to register for the workshops as well. Our Faith: Formation and Information: Join this discussion of navigating trustworthy resources on the internet and in the cloud that promote the formation of our faith for our young people, and information sites that will support parents in their child's study and experience of religion in school. What does secondary inquiry look like in the school library? : A library learning commons is a common or shared space that is both physical and virtual. This workshop will explore how a secondary library is designed to move students beyond mere research, practice and group work to a greater level of engagement through collaboration, experimentation and experimentation. Inquiry and the Secondary Math Classroom: This workshop will highlight strategies that promote inquiry in the secondary math classroom, with a particular focus on the transition process for grade nine students into secondary mathematics. My Blueprint: The Essential Guidance Tool: Get more information and experience using My Blueprint to understand and support your child's informed choices about their education and future by further exploring this tool. SHSM and e-learning opportunities will also be highlighted as the presenters work through the many facets of this program. Technology in the Intermediate Classroom: In this workshop, the ways that technology enhances a student’s learning will be explored. 6. Primary Science Inquiry: This workshop will discuss how student imagination guides instruction in science to meet curriculum expectations. 7. Inquiry in FDK: The session will examine how inquiry plays a significant in a full day early learning kindergarten environment. 8. Technology in FDK: This workshop will look at the many ways technology enhances the full day kindergarten experience for parents and students. 9. Responsive Classroom Design: Learn how changes to classroom environment support student needs and learning. 10. Use of Technology (tablets) in the Classroom/Blended Learning: In this interactive workshop, Smore and Padlet will be demonstrated to show how two classes are connected and work to collaborate. 11. Blended Learning in the 21st Century Classroom: An exploration of blended learning in the elementary classroom. 12. Inquiry in Primary Grades: This workshop will explore inquiry in the primary classroom. 13. Literacy, Responsive Classroom Design, Social Media and Communications: A workshop that discusses the forms of communication that are now part of classroom work. 14. Social and Environmental Studies: A workshop on inquiry and the new curriculum in SES. 15. Math and Chores!: This workshop will focus on building computational fluency through everyday chores and objects around the house. 16. Next Generation Learning Support in Math: A workshop exploring on-line assistance such as Homework Help and other sites.
