Course Description:
This course enables students to discover the origins and nature of philosophy. The course will focus on Western philosophy with
particular attention addressing the Christian philosophical perspective as well as with the feminist and Eastern philosophical ideals and
traditions.

*All assessed materials will be evaluated based on Knowledge and Understanding, Thinking and Inquiry, Communication and
Application. Each of these categories is weighted at 25% of the overall grade.
ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION:
An effective assessment program in Grade 12 philosophy will include a balance of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment
instruments including the following:
A four –level performance/reporting continuum will be used for both assessment and reporting achievement. For report card
purposes, performance levels will be converted to grade levels using the following scale:
LEVEL 4 – 80-100%
LEVEL 3 – 70-79%
LEVEL 2 – 60-69%
LEVEL 1 – 50-59%
R = Below 50% (Achievement is NOT MEETING grade expectations)
Students are encouraged to approach the teacher at the first indication of difficulty in this course in order to avoid or
eliminate further difficulties as the course progresses.
