WEEKLY UPDATE March 17, 2014 issue 24 School # 905-‐792-‐2251 Georges Vanier Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all our Irish families and friends in the Vanier Community School secretary: Mrs. Fay School principal: Mr. Maiolo Superintendent: Mr. Vecchiarino Trustee: Mr. McLauchlan School Parish: St. John Fisher Pastor: Fr. Grima Journeying with Jesus through Lent. Lent is a 40-‐day period of preparation for Easter Sunday and one of the m ajor liturgical seasons of the Catholic Church. A penitential season m arked by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Saint Paul tells us that we should "pray without ceasing," yet in our busy world, it sometimes seems that prayer takes a back seat not only to our work but to entertainment. Take time during this Lenten Season to pray. While fasting takes the form of refraining from eating, it is primarily a spiritual discipline designed to tame the body so that we can concentrate on higher things. Almsgiving involves giving to others as an act of virtue, either materially or in the sense of providing capabilities for free. God, heavenly Father, look upon me and hear my prayer during this holy Season of Lent. By the good works You inspire, help m e to discipline my body and to be renewed in spirit. AMEN Intramurals gr. 1 to 6 as well as Dancercise gr 3 to 8 continue for students. Intermediate Basketball under way GO VIKINGS! The Vanier Vikings Dance-‐a-‐thon was held on Thursday, March 6.
