HHS4U: Phase Two Gathering and Reviewing Credible Research Sources The goal of this phase is to find credible and valid academic research from sources that will support your hypothesis. In citing secondary sources, you are finding ways to answer your original research question. The research you discover should help build the credibility of your research report. Remember that you are looking to find information that answers your specific research question and that is related to your hypothesis. **It is possible that your original hypothesis might change as a result of this research. This is OK; you can make adjustments in the next phase. The Task: You are to seek out SIX (6) separate sources of research that are related to your research question. For each source you must do the following: 1. Answer questions to evaluate the validity and credibility of the research source. 2. Properly cite the source using APA format. 3. Create a list of at least 5 research points taken from the source that will be expanded on in your paper. 4. A short paragraph that explains how this source relates to your hypothesis. *** DO NOT use Wikipedia, magazine articles not from an academic source, people personal websites, editorials… Include a proper APA formatted title page and then you may use the following format for each of your 6 sources: Name of the Source: When was it Published? Where was it Published? Who is the Author(s)? What type of source is it? (Article, book…): Why is this a credible source? Explain: Source Citation (Proper APA Format): Research Points (at least 5): Conclusions on how this source and information relates to my research question and hypothesis (or not) – be specific: Criteria/Levels Knowledge/Understanding - Content (What you know) Answers showed limited understanding of facts, terms and concepts Answers showed some understanding of facts, terms and concepts Answers showed considerable understanding of facts terms and concepts Answers showed thorough understanding of facts terms and concepts Problem-solving skills were applied with limited effectiveness Solving skills were applied with limited effectiveness Problem-solving skills were applied with considerable effectiveness Problem solving skills were applied with high degree of effectiveness Analysis and interpretation was weak Analysis and interpretation was satisfactory Analysis and interpretation was effective Information has been communicated with limited effectiveness Information has been communicated with some effectiveness Information has been considerable effectiveness Information has been communicated with a great degree of effectiveness Ability to make conclusions, predictions and connections was limited in effectiveness Ability to make conclusions, predictions and connections was moderately effective Ability to make conclusions, predictions and connections was effective Insightful conclusions, predictions, and/or connections were made Considerable 80-100% Level 4 Thorough Analysis and interpretation was strong Spelling/Grammar Formal Essay Language Completion Works Cited APA Format – source citation Application – Final Product/Making Connections and Conclusions (How you use what you know) 70-79% Level 3 Research points were related to the hypothesis and research question Questions related to the validity of the sources were answered thoroughly and properly Communication – Writing/Organization (How you express what you know) 60-69% Level 2 Some Gathered at least 6 credible research sources Included at least 5 relevant research facts for each of the sources Thinking and Inquiry – Process (How you know it) 50-59% Level 1 Limited Specific conclusion on how the information relates to the hypothesis and research question
