Virtue for October—Empathy When you are going to be away Call the school each day!! 2 Visitors in the School – School Safety All visitors including parents and former students must check in at the main office before proceeding to any other area of the school. If you are picking up your child at school, we ask that you report to the office if the pick up is during the school day. If it is a regular dismissal, please wait outside the appropriate exit doors of the building to avoid disruption of classroom routines. Cooperation in following these routines helps ensure our student’s safety. Anaphylaxis Alert St. Leonard Elementary is an allergen aware school. There are pupils in attendance who suffer from severe and life threatening allergies to certain foods, such as peanut and nut products. Exposure to the smallest quantities can cause severe life threatening allergic reaction. The most common allergen triggers are food, insect stings, medications, exercise and latex. An anaphylactic reaction involves symptoms from two or more body systems. We would appreciate the co-operation of the entire school community by Not sending any lunches or snacks that contain nut products which could potentially harm a pupil. Please make sure that all of your children’s caregivers are aware of the food restrictions. Please avoid sending food for birthday or special occasions. There are many alternatives such as stickers and pencils. If you have any questions please talk to your child’s teacher or the school staff. The Fire Code - Revised Regulation of Ontario requires that total evacuation fire drills are to be held 3 times in each of the Fall and Spring school terms. Each school has a Fire Safety Plan and an Evacuation Plan. Our evacuation site is J. Archdekin Recreation Centre. Schools are also required to conduct two Lockdown procedure drills per year. All teaching, secretarial, custodial staff and students receive appropriate instruction in dealing with the presence of an intruder in the school. Rooms are secured and staff and students are instructed to lay on the floor away from doors and windows. Similar safety procedures are in place for Bomb Threats, Severe Weather, “Hold and Secure” and Access to School Premises. Kiss’n Ride Procedures Please take a few minutes to review our Kiss’n Ride procedures. We have had a few incidents of people coming in the wrong driveway or parking in the Kiss’n ride route. Please remember the safety of our children when using the Kiss’n ride. Drive directly to the back row and proceed around the line (do not use the centre aisles to cut into the flow of traffic).
