Students will also need a sketchbook, pencils, coloured pencils, ruler, eraser and a notebook.
Course Overview: This course enables students to further develop their knowledge and
skills in visual arts. Students will use the creative process to explore a wide range of
themes through studio work that may include drawing, painting, sculpting, and printmaking,
as well as the creation of collage, multimedia works, and works using emerging
technologies. Students will use the critical analysis process when evaluating their own work
and the work of others.
Prerequisite: Visual Arts, Grade 9 or 10, Open

Creating and Presenting
By the end of this course, students will:
The Creative Process: apply the creative process to create a variety of art works, individually and/or collaboratively;
The Elements and Principles of Design: apply elements and principles of design to create art works for the purpose of self-expression aa
and to communicate ideas, information and/or messages:
Production and Presentation: produce art works, using a variety of media/materials and traditional and/or emerging technologies, tools,
and techniques, and demonstrate and understanding of a variety of ways of presenting their works and the works
of others.
Reflecting, Responding, and Analysing
By the end of this course, students will:
The Critic al analysis Process: demonstrate an understanding of the critical analysis process by examining, interpreting, evaluating, and
reflecting of various art works;
Art, Society, and Values: demonstrate an understanding of how art works reflect the society in which they were created, and of how they
can affect personal values;
Connections Beyond the Classroom: demonstrate an understanding of the types of knowledge and skills developed in visual arts, and
identify various opportunities related to visual arts.
Foundations
By the end of this course, students will:
Terminology: demonstrate an understanding of, and use correct terminology when referring to elements, principles, and other components
related to visual arts;
Conventions and Techniques: demonstrate an understanding of conventions and techniques used in the creation of visual art works;
Responsible practices: demonstrate an understanding of responsible practices related to visual arts.

Missed/Late/Incomplete Assignments
It is the student’s responsibility to address missed, late, or incomplete assignments. Students are
expected to complete assignments and to adhere to assignment deadlines as follows:

Maximum penalty of 10%
Closure Date
Once the closure date has
passed, work is considered
incomplete and a mark of
zero applies.
