Second Grade General Information
Mrs. DeCoste
1. Please keep toys at home as they distract students.
2. Please put your child’s name on EVERYTHING they bring to school.
This saves on confusion, time, tears.
3. Please call the school (835-6331) if your child is going to be
absent. If your child is arriving late or needs to leave school early,
you need to come to the office and sign them in or out. The
secretary will send for your child. I cannot release your child until
this happens. Please do not come to the classroom.
4. When sending money to school, please send it in an envelope
marked with your child’s name, teacher, amount and purpose of
money.
5. School supplies need constant replacement—especially pencils.
Please ask your child each month if they need new pencils, glue
sticks, crayons, etc. Please do not send mechanical pencils or
individual pencil sharpeners.
6. Birthdays are special days for students. If you would like to send
in a birthday treat, please send in a non-food item such as a
pencil, stickers, little notepads etc. We can celebrate summer
birthdays at their halfway point. We have approximately 25
students in our class.
7. The children cannot pass out private party invitations at school.
Please make other arrangements unless you are inviting the
whole class.
8. Whenever you are visiting or helping in the building, you are
required to go to the office to sign in and out. You will receive a
visitor’s badge which you need to wear. If you are waiting for
your child at dismissal time, please wait by the front entrance. Be
sure to tell your child where you will meet them.
9. A medical doctor’s written order for medication is necessary for
medication to be administered at school. The school office has
these forms which your doctor can complete. All medication is
given in the office.
10. Anytime you have questions/concerns, please feel free to send a
note. I’ll be glad to arrange a conference if you wish to speak with
me in person. Mornings before school are very busy times for me.
Please do not “pop-in” unless you have a serious last minute
emergency. Always go to the office first. If you need to speak to me
on the phone, please call and leave a message. I’ll do my best to get
back to you in the afternoon.
11. Paperback book orders are sent home nearly every month. You
may order paperback books from Scholastic, Inc. at reasonable
prices. Please write a check for your order made payable to
Scholastic. Cash cannot be accepted. Ordering books is optional.
12. Take Home Folders will be brought home to you each day.
Please look at your child’s work. The Take Home Folder is to be
emptied each day. Do not be alarmed if you do not get papers each
day. We may be doing projects and activities that carry over several
days.
13. A monthly class newsletter will be sent home to keep you
informed as to what is happening in our class. Other information will
be sent home in the Take Home Folder, as needed.
14. When a student is absent, work will be saved in their class
mailbox for them to complete upon their return. They have as many
days absent, plus one to make up the work. (Ex. If absent 2 days,
they have 3 days from when they return to make it up.) Requests for
work to be sent home can be made if a student is absent for more
than 2 days. Requests should be made in the morning of the day
work is needed. This allows for time to gather the work from the
appropriate teachers.
15. If your child is going home a different way than normal, please
send a note indicating the request. One note can be sent if the
change is for the entire school year. (Ex. Student will be a car-rider
instead of a bus-rider)
Thank you for helping us have a successful start to the school year!
