AbstractID: 14608 Title: External Factors Impacting the Practice of Clinical Medical Physics Lynne Fairobent Title: Regulatory and Legislative Influences Impacting Medical Physicists There are many regulatory and legislative initiatives that have implications for medical physicists. Recent articles in the NY Times have resulted in AAPM testifying before the U.S. House of Representatives, Subcommittee on Health. Several bills are pending in Congress that have implications on the practice of medicine and the credentials for medical physicists and medical dosimetrists that when passed will have regulatory implications. Safety Culture, Increased Controls, Patient Safety, Accreditation, Registration, Credentials – what do these mean to medical physics? Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees should be able to: 1. Define what is meant by safety culture. 2. Understand the goals of the CARE legislation. 3. Understand how a grassroots program can benefit the practice of medical physics and medical dosimetry.
