(7) Poetry Lesson 1
There are so many different visual elements that
poets use when they write their poems. Each of
the “looks” poet’s use adds a very important
meaning to the message of their poems.
As we continue to explore more poems, we will
get to understand the reasons for these special
looks.
Distribute copies of Appendix 2 “What Do You See?”
and then display two poems from one of the other
mentor texts. Have students work in groups or with a
partner to list examples on the handout of visual
elements they find. Share with class.
