MISSION STATEMENT Together We Learn The mission of the St. Veronica Catholic School Community is to provide, in a responsible manner, a Catholic Education which develops the various capabilities of each individual to live fully today and to meet the challenges of the future, thus enriching our community. We are dedicated and committed to the building of a strong partnership between the home, school and parish to help our children grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, morally, socially in the image of Christ. VIRTUE EDUCATION Every month we will gather as a community of faith and recognize the virtues in the actions of our students. The virtues are rooted in the Gospel Values and emphasized in the Catholic Graduate Expectations with an emphasis on the development of the whole child. These are the virtues that we will recognize and promote throughout the school year: September October November December January February March April May June Faith Empathy Conscience Hope Self Control Respect Kindness Love Acceptance Fairness BELIEF STATEMENTS We believe that … we grow in our faith as a community by living the gospel values of love, justice, compassion and service in our daily lives. …each individual within the community can grow intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually through meaningful and challenging learning experience. Faith in Education “Enter to Learn, Prepare to Serve” THE CATHOLIC EDUCATION EXPERIENCE “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18) Our Catholic journey is strongly rooted in developing future Catholic leaders. We create opportunities rich within the Catholic experience to help us work towards the attainment of our Catholic Graduate Expectations. When our students leave our school we will have created discerning believers, effective communicators, reflective and holistic thinkers who are self-directed, responsible lifelong learners, collaborative contributors, caring family members and responsible citizens. S. Donaghue C. Duke Principal Vice-Principal PARISH, SCHOOL & HOME CONNECTIONS St. Francis Xavier Parish and St. Veronica School work together with the home to ensure that we are all working towards the achievement of the Catholic Graduate Expectations for our students. Leading our pastoral team is Pastor Msgr. Edgardo Pan, Associate Pastors Fr. Joshua Roldan & Fr. Susairaj Savarimuthu. Their visits to our school community add to the development and celebration of our faith. Regular, continuous and open communication between home, parish & school is essential for supporting our students’ faith formation and creating successful faith-based learning experiences. Parents are invited and welcome to attend school liturgies, sacramental preparations, and to support our efforts in creating a strong sense of stewardship among our students by supporting school outreach projects and community charities. SCHOOL PASTORAL PLAN As the adult faith ambassadors for our students, our school pastoral plan allows us to explore our role in the formation of our future Catholic leaders. Through the Use of Prayer… Daily Prayers, Praying the Rosary, Liturgical Reflections, Bible readings, and O’ Canada are parts of every student’s opening exercises. Our Faith and Prayer is further deepened by regular engagement in praying the rosary. At St. Veronica we welcome the Rosary Apostolates into our school community and work alongside with them in the faith development of our students and staff. Through Special Liturgical Celebrations… As Catholics, we praise God every day and we are thankful for our many blessings. We use special times of the year to highlight our thanks to God for all that He has done for us by bringing us together in church. Our liturgical celebrations are included on this pamphlet, are posted on our website & will also be included in our newsletters. Through Community Service & Outreach Projects As a faith community, we strive to find ways to live our virtues, demonstrate compassion and generosity by giving to those in need. As a community of caring, concerned citizens we will strive to find opportunities to demonstrate our commitment to Jesus and His ministry through a range of community service projects. With a strong and active group of Catholic Youth Leaders, St. Veronica reaches out to our community by supporting Terry Fox, Operation Christmas Child, Canadian Food for Children, Sharelife, United Way, The Knight’s Table, St. Francis Xavier Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Society & Sick Kids Hats Off to Cancer as well as other Catholic charities. At St. Veronica, our grade two and grade eight teachers, supported by their family and the parish team at St. Francis Xavier, spend a great deal of time preparing students for the sacrament of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. These are truly significant moments in the formation of our student’s catholicity and to our commitment to the Catholic Church. CELEBRATION
