Law & You Current Legal Events Assignment During the semester you will be required to complete 2 current event presentations. 1 You will need to research and report on a legal situation that occurred in business or society within the last week. All presentations must be completed individually. It must be a ruling, court case or legal matter of some kind that is reported in the newspaper, magazine or on an internet news site (Yahoo news, fox news, CNN, etc). Presentations will take place each Friday, starting Friday September 20-Jan 10. The first current event must be presented by Oct. 25 and the second by Jan. 10. A one-page paper must accompany your presentation and a copy of the article should be attached. In your paper and during the presentation you must discuss the following: 1 paragraph summary of the situation/event-paraphrase do not copy & paste 1 paragraph analysis of this event –discuss what you believe to be the implications of the event on the company, society, organization, etc. and connect to classroom topics and terms used in notes or in the book. You will be graded on your completion of the above points, your presentation and paper. You must paraphrase the article, do not copy it word for word! You will be required to attach the article so I will know if you just copied the information. During the presentations you need to look at the class, not your paper, speak loudly and clearly. A 2-3 minute presentation is all that is necessary. Avoid the words “like,” “well,” and “um.” Your paper should be typed, contain no ink marks or smudges and be free of all grammar or spelling errors. Bottom line, the presentation and paper should be professional.
